Our SEN Information Report

This report provides detailed information about the support, provision and resources available for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) at our school.

The report explains how we identify and assess pupils' needs, the support we provide, how we work in partnership with parents and carers, and how we enable all pupils to access a broad, balanced and inclusive curriculum. It also outlines how we monitor progress, involve pupils in decisions about their learning, and work with external agencies when additional support is required.

We review this report annually to ensure it reflects current practice and continues to meet the needs of our school community. We hope it helps parents, carers and other stakeholders understand our commitment to ensuring every child is supported to achieve their potential and thrive both academically and personally.

Our SEND Policy

Our SEND Policy sets out how we identify, assess and support pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and reflects our commitment to ensuring that every child is valued, included and able to achieve their full potential.

The policy outlines the principles that underpin our approach to SEND, including our commitment to high-quality teaching, early identification of need, partnership with parents and carers, and the graduated approach to support. It also explains the roles and responsibilities of staff, governors, pupils and families in ensuring that pupils with SEND receive effective provision and have full access to school life.

We believe that every child should feel a sense of belonging, experience success and be supported to flourish academically, socially and emotionally within our inclusive school community.

Intent

At Medstead CE Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that every child is valued, included and empowered to achieve their full potential. We recognise that all pupils are unique and that some children may require additional support, adaptations or specialist provision to flourish both academically and personally.

Our inclusive approach reflects our belief that every child has the right to access a broad, ambitious and enriching curriculum, regardless of their starting points or individual needs. Through high-quality teaching, strong partnerships and a culture of belonging, we strive to remove barriers to learning and participation so that every pupil can succeed.

We achieve this by:

  • Identifying and responding to additional needs at the earliest opportunity through close collaboration with families and professionals.
  • Ensuring all pupils have access to a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum that is appropriately adapted to meet individual needs.
  • Creating an inclusive and accessible learning environment where every child feels safe, valued and supported.
  • Carefully monitoring progress, attainment, attendance and wellbeing to ensure pupils receive timely support.
  • Working collaboratively with families, external agencies and specialist services to secure the best possible outcomes for children with SEND.
  • Promoting independence, self-advocacy and pupil voice so that children play an active role in their learning and development.
  • Maintaining high aspirations for every child and preparing them for successful future learning and life beyond primary school.

Implementation

At Medstead CE Primary School, we believe that every teacher is a teacher of SEND. Inclusion sits at the heart of our school community, and our provision is shaped through partnership with pupils, families, teachers, support staff and external professionals.

Pupils with SEND are:

  • Fully included in all aspects of school life, including educational visits, enrichment opportunities, clubs, collective worship and leadership roles.
  • Supported through high-quality adaptive teaching that enables them to access the curriculum alongside their peers.
  • Encouraged to share their views and contribute to decisions about their learning and support.
  • Nurtured within a caring, Christian environment where wellbeing, confidence and positive relationships are prioritised.

Where appropriate, pupils may also receive:

  • Targeted individual or small-group support to help them access learning and achieve their next steps.
  • Opportunities to pre-teach, revisit, practise and embed knowledge and skills across the curriculum.
  • Evidence-informed interventions tailored to their specific needs.
  • Pastoral support and access to programmes that promote social, emotional and mental wellbeing.
  • Specialist support from Speech and Language Therapists and other professionals.
  • Collaborative support from external agencies, including Educational Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Specialist Teachers and Health Professionals.

Specialist Support

We work closely with Hampshire County Council's specialist services and external professionals to ensure that children with a wide range of needs, including communication and interaction needs, cognition and learning needs, social, emotional and mental health needs, sensory and physical needs, receive the support and adaptations required to thrive. Through this collaborative approach, we ensure that children can access the full curriculum and participate fully in school life.

Specialist Provision for Deaf Pupils

Medstead CE Primary School is proud to host a Specialist Provision for Deaf Pupils, providing expert support for children who are deaf or have significant hearing needs. Working in partnership with teachers, specialist staff, families and hearing support services, we ensure that deaf pupils can fully participate in all aspects of school life and access the same ambitious curriculum as their peers.

The provision offers:

  • Specialist teaching and support tailored to individual hearing needs.
  • Close liaison with hearing support services, audiologists and families.
  • Adaptations to learning environments and teaching approaches to maximise access to learning.
  • Support to develop communication, independence, confidence and self-advocacy skills.
  • Opportunities for deaf pupils to participate fully in the wider life of the school, fostering belonging, achievement and positive outcomes.
