Religious Education is taught through a carefully sequenced curriculum from EYFS to Year 6.

Learning follows the enquiry-led approach of Living Difference IV, where pupils explore religious and worldview concepts through a cycle of:

4. Contextualise
5. Evaluate

This approach encourages children to think deeply, ask questions and make connections between belief, practice and lived experience.

Christianity is taught through the Understanding Christianity resource, which supports pupils in:

• Making sense of biblical texts.
• Understanding the impact of Christian beliefs.
• Making connections between faith, lived experience and their own lives.

Pupils learn through a variety of experiences, including:

• Discussion and debate
• Storytelling and sacred texts
• Visits to places of worship
• Visitors from faith communities
• Reflection and personal response
• Art, drama and creative activities
• Collaborative enquiry and investigation

Teachers create respectful classroom environments where children can explore big questions, articulate their own viewpoints and listen carefully to others. RE is taught objectively and inclusively, recognising the diversity that exists both within and between religious traditions.

Understanding Christianity

Understanding Christianity forms a significant part of our RE curriculum and provides a coherent progression of Christian learning across the school.

The programme is built around eight core theological concepts. Pupils revisit these concepts throughout their primary years, developing increasingly sophisticated understanding as they move through the school. Learning is structured around:

• Making Sense of the Text – understanding biblical texts and interpretation.
• Understanding the Impact – exploring how beliefs influence Christian living.
• Making Connections – reflecting on personal responses and wider implications.

For example, younger pupils explore questions such as:

• Why is the word God important to Christians?
• Why do Christians perform nativity plays at Christmas?
• Why does Easter matter to Christians?

Older pupils consider more complex enquiries such as:

• What does it mean if God is holy and loving?
• Was Jesus the Messiah?
• How can following God bring freedom and justice?
• What difference does the resurrection make to Christians?
