Consultation on the development of our RSHE Policy

We are currently reviewing our Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) Policy to ensure we continue to provide a high-quality curriculum that supports pupils to stay healthy, safe and prepared for life in modern Britain. Our RSHE curriculum is delivered through the Kapow Primary Scheme of Work.

As part of this review, we are inviting parents and carers to take part in a consultation about our RSHE provision. Please see the Parent Guide below which outlines the curriculum content for each year group and is available to help inform discussions and feedback.

The consultation will focus on the optional Year 6 Sex Education unit, which is the only non-statutory element of primary RSHE. We welcome parents' views on:

• Whether the optional Year 6 Sex Education unit should be taught.
• When it should be delivered during the school year.
• The content and learning objectives of the unit.
• How the lessons will be taught and how pupils will be supported.

The consultation is intended to gather parents' views on whether the school should include this optional Year 6 Sex Education unit within the curriculum. However, even if the school decides to teach the unit following consultation, parents will continue to have the right to withdraw their own child from these lessons if they wish. This right does not apply to statutory Relationships Education, Health Education or National Curriculum Science.

Parents and carers will be invited to attend a consultation meeting and share their views. Those unable to attend can still submit feedback to the school. Following the consultation, an electronic vote will be held, and the majority view will be considered when updating the school's RSHE Policy.
