Medstead Church of England Primary School

Achieving excellence for all children

within an inspiring and inclusive environment

Religious Education

At Medstead Primary School we follow the Hampshire Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education, Living Difference IV, which was updated in November 2021.  As a Church of England school we also use Understanding Christianity as a resource to help teach concepts in Christianity in greater depth.

Living Difference IV seeks to introduce children and young people to what a religious way of looking at, and existing in, the world may offer in leading one’s life, individually and collectively.  At Medstead, we aim to do this through enquiry-based learning spread over a week, including a variety of engaging activities to bring a range of concepts alive.

At Medstead, children engage with aspects of what it means to live life in the Christian traditions, along with depth studies of other religious traditions, as follows:

  • Early Years and Key Stage 1 – Sikhi
  • Years 3 and 4 – Judaism and Hindu Traditions
  • Years 5 and 6 – Islam and Buddhism

Where there may be children from other traditions in the class, we have the flexibility to include these in an overview study wherever this is appropriate.  We also enjoy investigating festivals and traditions from across the world at different times of the year as we believe this helps to enhance our children's view of themselves as global citizens.
