Intent - What we want our pupils to learn
Our intent is to provide a high-quality science education that develops children's natural curiosity and equips them with the scientific knowledge and enquiry skills they need for the next stage of their education and beyond.
Through our science curriculum, we aim to:
- Develop a secure understanding of key scientific concepts within biology, chemistry and physics.
- Foster curiosity, creativity and a sense of awe about the natural world.
- Build children's confidence in asking questions, making predictions, conducting investigations and drawing conclusions from evidence.
- Equip pupils with a rich scientific vocabulary that enables them to communicate and explain their understanding accurately.
- Ensure knowledge is carefully sequenced and revisited so that learning is retained and deepened over time.
- Promote resilience, critical thinking and problem-solving through practical enquiry.
- Introduce pupils to a diverse range of scientists and scientific careers, helping them understand the relevance of science in everyday life.
- Provide an inclusive curriculum that enables all pupils, including those with SEND and disadvantaged learners, to access, engage with and succeed in science.
Our curriculum supports the National Curriculum aim for pupils to develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding, understand the nature and processes of science, and appreciate the uses and implications of science both now and in the future.
